Introduction
Hi, Mark Gibson here,
I’m a lot like you… I’ve never been terribly happy with the way the music business has worked. Over the years it became dominated by huge multi-national corporations that never quite seemed to have the best interests of MUSIC at heart. If you were on their roster and under contract then everything was rosy but if you were on the outside looking in, well… good luck!
Over the last 5 years or so, there has been a “light at the end of the tunnel.” The Internet. It’s still only a small light but things are shifting in the right direction. Slowly but surely services, techniques and products are appearing that are starting to give the independent band or musician a slightly more even playing field. Some are even starting to do quite well without the interference of the dreaded record company. Some are building a small but loyal fan base which gives them much greater bargaining power when they do get picked up by a record label.
Whatever your goal is, the internet can be a powerful tool to help you not only compete, but to rise above the herd. If you know what you’re doing that is! If you just jump in and thrash around you are likely to get lost amongst the millions. If you work to a plan and get some help though, things start to get a lot easier.
This simple site, which was originally released as an ebook, will help to clarify some of the things you need to do to become successful independent artists in this day and age. It is made up of some articles that were originally written for www.ImproveYourMusic.com and some new material that is only available on this site.
I hope you find it helpful.
Best wishes, Mark Gibson
